News

The visit of Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Russia and Ukraine illustrated his priority for foreign policy, especially related to Indonesia’s G20 Presidency. This JOINT Brief by Andrew W. Mantong and Gilang Kembara (Researchers at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Jakarta) analyses Indonesia’s foreign policy pillars in relation to its G20 Presidency and the war in Ukraine.

While for Jokowi foreign policy is mostly economic diplomacy, he also acknowledges the fundamental role of multilateral platforms, like the G20, to exert Indonesia’s influence and compensate for the country’s minimal security capabilities.
